Reggaeton music originated in latter part of the 1970′s in Panama. It was the Afro-Panamanians who mainly sung these songs. Better known as Reggae music in Spanish, it soon found a place in Puerto Rico – here it gained immense popularity. The native of Puerto Rico began composing Riddims too on their own. Four out of the top 10 Latin Music albums had Reggaeton music and its sales went up by 23% in America. Reggaeton gained popularity in the 1990′s when it attracted the Youth of Latin America. DJ’s and VJ’s from various radio stations get huge number of requests to play Reggaeton music from audience, especially from the Latin community. The craze for Reggaeton music does not seem to subside even after a certain period. It is the fast beat and the rebellious lyrics that has captured the likings of the youth. Nando Boom, Renato, Chicho Man are some of the contemporary Reggaeton music artist who have made it to the Reggaeton music charts. The new sensation of Reggaeton music Brisaye is better known as Reggaeton princess. Her debut single ‘Tocame’ received a plenty of attention due to its unique style. Daddy Yankee is considered to be the greatest Reggaeton artist, for he has gained fame as a musician very quickly. It was with ‘Gasolina’ and his single hit ‘Rompe’ that the Reggaeton revolution began. His compositions are climbing up the Reggaeton music charts faster than others. Songs like ‘Gangster Zone’ and ‘Dale Caliente’ from Daddy Yankee’s new album ‘Barrio Fino en Directo’ have reached numero uno in the Reggaeton music charts. Calle 13′s ‘Atrevete-te-te’ stands second on the popularity scale after Daddy Yankee. Calle 13 is also becoming popular in Puerto Rico.
